Not As You Are

Acyrlic, Pencil, Pastel
30×40 canvas
2024

NOT AS YOU ARE bursts with layered reds, pinks, and fractured forms—its surface vibrating with tension.

This piece feels like an unraveling. A memory breaking apart as you try to hold it still. It alludes to a woman, a doorway, and the friction of something unresolved—possibly a failed attempt to connect, or to understand someone who’s no longer who you remember. The title, Not As You Are, speaks volumes. She’s no longer that person. Or maybe she never was. And yet the memory keeps trying to rebuild her, reshape her, relive the doorway moment.

The architectural elements—the implied walls and open planes—give the sense of a room or passage, while the disjointed shapes and tonal shifts reflect the internal collapse of clarity. You’re not painting a scene, you’re painting the fading of one
